NEUROMUSCULAR THERAPY
Neuromuscular therapy (NMT) is a treatment method aimed at reducing pain and dysfunctions in the neuromuscular system. By the neuromuscular system we mean muscles, tendons, joints, fascia and nerves. This method is based on knowledge of anatomy, physiology and neurology and uses manual techniques to restore the balance and function of the neuromuscular system.
Where is the cause of the complaint?
The examination involves a combination of muscle testing, muscle palpation and testing of receptors in connective tissue (muscles, tendons, ligaments, attachments, etc) to determine the cause of your complaint. We use muscle testing to determine which muscles are functioning properly and which are not. A non-functioning muscle can not optimally stabilize a weight which can cause long-term complaints. This is almost always the cause of your complaints. If the control around a joint is not good, your nervous system provides a compensation strategy. Often a painful muscle or joint is the result of a compensation strategy that has become exhausted. This is because a compensation strategy is a short-term solution of your nervous system and not suitable for the long term. This is the reason why symptoms can develop slowly.
During the first session you will already gain insight into the cause of your symptoms. By working on the cause of the complaints, no time is wasted on treating symptoms, as often happens with other methods. During the extensive examination, all structures involved in your complaints are mapped. Especially if the symptoms have existed for some time, there may be multiple structures involved that need to be treated.
Treatment
The treatment focuses primarily on restoring the normal function of the neuromuscular system. This means that the control of all muscles and joints is improved and you notice this already during the first treatment. Correcting the neuromuscular system is done through manual techniques on muscle, tendon, ligaments and stimulation of receptors in the connective tissue. Using these new and highly effective techniques, the control of muscles and joints improves immediately.
Follow-up treatment focuses on loosening adhesions or hardening in the muscles (and fascia), improving blood flow and range of motion in the affected tissues. These techniques are ideal for eliminating residual symptoms.
